Counter-drone provider Citadel Defense has released an AI-powered software company officials say will autonomously protect against threats to 98 percent of commercial off-the-shelf drones.

When paired with the San Diego-based company’s Titan system, the counter-drone solution can protect a large military base or airfield via a single interface for around-the-clock coverage.

“Citadel built Titan to be a reliable system that consistently delivers on its advertised capabilities and works as effectively in uncontrolled combat environments as it does in scripted Government tests,” Citadel Defense Christopher Williams said.

“We delivered intuitive [counter-drone] hardware and software that quickly and cost effectively handles threats across all modalities of operation so that troops can focus on their missions without distraction,” he added.

In the past, warfighters had expressed concerns that legacy counter-drone systems were difficult to operate and cost prohibitive to sustain. Citadel worked with the U.S. Air Force and other government agencies to develop an optimized, radiofrequency solution for air-defense operations.

“The team’s focus on AI, machine learning, and hyper-automation has allowed the company to deliver a single counter-drone solution that is equally effective across fixed, mobile and dismounted missions.”

“Our troops and security teams face dynamic threat environments where drones are only one of many concerns.  We designed Titan to provide automated end-to-end protection against commercial off-the-shelf drones with the same user experience on one system as you have when over a dozen systems are networked together,” Williams added.

In December, the California-based company completed a six-month deployment of its counter-drone solutions for three undisclosed federal agencies.

In September, Citadel partnered with the U.S. Air Force to protect military assets from drone assaults on the heels of an attack on Saudi oil assets – partially by drone.

Earlier this year, the company signed an agreement with the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency. The initiative deploys counter-drone measures in support of Special Operations Command requirements.

“[Titan’s] ease of use coupled with the fact that it can operate in environments where communications are critical, like major cities, airports or aboard large ships, provide users with a flexible solution for many missions,” Williams said of the agreement.
