Skypuzzler Nominated Finalist in ATM Awards

Danish start-up Skypuzzler has been nominated for the ‘Shaping our future skies’ category of this year’s CANSO ATM Awards.

As a finalist in the category, the judging panel has recognised the company as having the potential to help shape the future of the aviation industry.

The ATM Awards highlights innovative new ideas for the future of air traffic management, with an emphasis on innovation, collaboration, resilience, sustainability, and safety. Skypuzzler’s solution to automate the deconfliction of drone traffic has earned it the consideration of the award ceremony’s judging panel.

“This industry recognition shows that we are working in the right direction. Our team has extensive expertise in air traffic control, drones, and computer science, with our solution we want to help the drone industry reach its full potential. Gartner’s 2022 industry report places drones on the ‘plateau of productivity’, meaning we are past the hype and well on the way to full-scale deployment,” said Skypuzzler CEO Jesper Skou.

“Drones are enormously useful and could add value to a number of industries in the very short term, if the infrastructure is in place to help these flights. Drone traffic cannot be managed the same way air traffic control manages aircraft today, it simply does not scale. Our digital air traffic control for drones is a vital component for the safe and efficient use of drones in our skies,” Skou added.

“The commercialisation phase of the industry will start in earnest in 2024, and in the early years of its development, to 2027, around 54 per cent of the overall market value will be derived from building the infrastructure and systems deployment,” said industry expert Philip Butterworth-Hayes in his industry report, forecasting drone market growth for the period 2023-2027.
