Binokl: Russia’s Cheap Thermal FPV Drone Explained

Binokl is a Russian-made FPV drone built by Syomka s vozdukha. It combines a compact FLIR thermal imager with commodity FPV components — a RadioMaster controller and iFlight Crystal goggles. It weighs 250g with battery, flies up to 40 minutes with roughly 5km range, and is priced two to three times cheaper than a comparable DJI Mavic.

Is it actually deployed at scale?

The manufacturer says several dozen units are already in use, with numbers increasing. But that account comes through Russian state media, not independent verification. Western trade press has been more cautious. sUAS News, a US-based drone industry outlet, said it couldn’t find footage confirming real combat use. It wasn’t certain the drone exists in meaningful numbers. Binokl was first shown publicly at the Aeronet exhibition in Moscow, a Russian aviation technology showcase.
