Technology and Services Giant IBM wants to use Block Chain t…

IBM has applied to patent a system that would use block chain technology to tackle privacy and security concerns for drones, according to a filing published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) September 20, 2018.

IBM joins a list of more traditional technology companies that are looking to supply technology solutions, in this case in the form of patents, to the drone space.  As drones become more and more integrated both the commercial airspace and business processes from insuranceagriculturedelivery, media, emergency management, and others.

IBM first filed a block chain and drone patent in March 2017, detailing how block chain could be used to securely store data associated with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)”.

Data may include the drones location, it’s make and model,  how it is flying, what payload such as camera is it carrying, outside weather conditions, and where it is flying.  Block chain technology allows both anonymous but secure information to be gathered that is important for some applications.
