U.S. drone manufacturer Skydio is ready to expand to the Asia-Pacific market, opening Skydio Japan next month.

Skydio’s first expansion overseas is testament to the stunning growth the company has experienced over the last year.  Skydio has made a mark with it’s autonomous flight technology, and by establishing its place as a leading U.S.-based drone manufacturer.  Skydio X2D is one of five drone solutions on the Department of Defense “Blue sUAS” list. The company received record-breaking funding this year; and announcements of new partnerships and contracts keep coming.  Skydio Japan is “the first step of a broader international expansion strategy following Skydio’s recent $100M Series C funding round,” says a company press release.

Tom Moss, Skydio’s first investor and first Chief Operating Officer, will serve as CEO of Skydio Japan.  Moss has held several high profile positions in high tech, including as General Manager of Android for the Japan and Asia Pacific Market at Google.

“I’m pleased to be able to bring Skydio’s world leading autonomous drone technology to Japan. Our focus in the Japanese market will be to create a safer and more productive society, building upon the early success we have already had in Japan in supporting the safe, reliable, and scalable inspection and maintenance of infrastructure such as bridges, skyscrapers, and power plants, as well as in post disaster response and more,” said Tom Moss, CEO of Skydio Japan.

“We are excited to bring our autonomous drone technology to Japan, which we believe is on the path to becoming a model for the world with respect to the successful integration of drones into the broader economy and society at scale,” said Adam Bry, CEO of Skydio.

While Skydio has marketed their U.S. origins heavily, taking advantage of current government actions to limit the purchase of drones manufactured in China and other listed countries, opening their first office overseas in Japan indicates Skydio is ready to manufacture for a global client base.

The office will be located at Roppongi 3-1-1, Minato-Ku, Tokyo, 106-0032 as of the middle of November 2020.
