The African Drone Forum (ADF) is underway in Rwanda, and UK insurtech startup Flock is working with the World Bank, UK Aid, the World Economic Forum, the Government of Rwanda, and other conference partners to cover all drone flights associated with the ADF.

That coverage includes the insurance required for the beyond visible line of sight (BVLOS) flight competitions taking place above Lake Kivu over the next few days.

Flock made a series of moves in 2019 to expand its enterprise offering and lay the groundwork for more advanced operations, such as those taking place at the African Drone Conference.

Last year the company partnered with Skyports to develop insurance coverage for drone delivery and UAM services in Europe; launched an insurance and risk management product for enterprise fleets, and launched monthly coverage to bolster its on-demand insurance offering.

Flock’s data-driven approach to insurance has allowed the company to provide a custom insurance policy for the flight competitions during the African Drone Forum.

Flock Covers the Lake Kivu Challenge

One of the highlights of the event will be the Lake Kivu Challenge, in which participants including Avy, German Drones, Phoenix Wings, Wingcopter, Venturi and Volans-i, Hojung Solutions, Drone Adventures, Qlex and Leapr Labs will demonstrate their capabilities across three enterprise applications: delivery, sample pick up and search and rescue.

Operators have the chance to demonstrate their ability to safely conduct BVLOS flights and could win cargo delivery contracts across the continent as a result.
