Women in the drone industry do a great job of supporting each other – but their numbers are still discouragingly small.  Women represent fewer than 5% of licensed drone pilots in the US, and fewer than 3% globally.  It’s a tiny fraction of such a rapidly growing industry – and the online community Women Who Drone is on a mission to increase that number.

Women Who Drone is launching a crowdfunding campaign to support their efforts to inspire and train new women drone pilots.  “Women Who Drone is on a mission to close the gender gap in the UAV industry by educating women & girls about drone technology and empowering them to become licensed, commercial drone pilots,” says their project description.  “We do this by providing drone flying workshops, one on one lessons, online courses, news & reviews, career opportunities and a supportive group of women around the world.”

Recently featured on The Verge, Women Who Drone emerged a year ago as a platform for featuring the creative work of talented female pilots.  The community features the work of over 400 pilots; they’ve recently partnered with Getty Images to license the work in the Women Who Drone Collection.  As the community has grown, members have shared educational resources and support – now, they want to increase those efforts to offer more opportunities for new flyers.
