Priceville Police locate missing man using drone

PRICEVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Larry Archer of Priceville received a birthday surprise Friday after Officer Turk Jones and Chief Jerry Holmes paid him a visit. Chief Holmes appeared on Archer’s doorstep with a batch of brownies to celebrate.

Just two days prior however, Archer had a much different encounter with Priceville Police after being reported missing by his family.

Police say Archer left home Wednesday morning to run errands. At some point, Archer became confused and drove his silver Ford Edge towards Madison. Mr. Archer ultimately ended up miles inside the Wildlife Refuge in Limestone Co. where his vehicle then became inoperable. Mr. Archer left his vehicle and began walking.

“I just got disoriented. I had no idea where I was anymore,” said Archer to the officers.

After his family alerted Priceville PD, Officer Turk Jones came to the scene following the coordinates of Archer’s vehicle. He then deployed the department drone in the rural area, locating Archer within 8 minutes. Jones said this was a task that could have taken days without the technology.

The exclusive footage provided by the Priceville Police Department shows Archer stranded in the middle of the refuge.

“It would have been a substantial amount of time beyond what we spent Wednesday night. Probably even days because I don’t think we would have even gotten close to locating him where he was at,” said Jones.

In a release to social media, Priceville PD says Archer was weak and tired, but otherwise uninjured. He was cleared by an EMT on scene and was reunited with this family just in time to celebrate his 74th birthday.

Chief Holmes and Officer Jones visited Archer on Friday for a check in. Archer’s wife expressed her gratitude to the officers for bringing her husband home.

“We do just thank you. Thank you very, very much,” she said to officers.
