Some folks do curler coasters, and a few don’t.  You can blame your abdomen or your interior ear, however movement illness – that hangover sensation with out the occasion beforehand – isn’t a lot enjoyable.  Now there’s excellent news for FPV pilots who discover that their stomachs are inclined to drop together with their drones: MONKEYmedia, an impartial R&D lab, has tackled the drawback.

“MONKEYmedia, Inc. announced the launch of its patented body- based navigation solution (BodyNavTM) for hands-free virtual reality interactions. BodyNav leverages the existing on- board sensors of smartphones and advanced 3D headsets in novel and unanticipated ways to engage the body’s innate center of gravity,” says the firm press launch. “This human-centered interaction approach reduces motion sickness artifacts and enhances navigation abilities in virtual and augmented realities (VR/AR), as well as first-person view (FPV) drone aviation contexts.”

Rob Bamforth, Principal Analyst at analysis and evaluation firm Quocirca, explains that “making the physical experience align with human expectations, as I experienced with MONKEYmedia’s BodyNav technology, is critical not only for an effective VR experience, but also for avoiding digitally induced motion sickness.”

The Motion Sickness Challenge

Motion illness has lengthy been a grievance amongst digital actuality avid gamers and drone pilots. Traditional stereoscopic headset interfaces use a number of sensor axes (e.g. rotate left/proper, pivot up/down, tip left/proper) to ascertain viewer orientation, whereas requiring handheld controllers (e.g., joysticks, gamepads, keyboards, and many others.) for locomotion. Visually “moving” by house whereas in a sedentary posture creates sensory imbalances that may trigger dizziness and nausea in the viewer. Oculus’ former Chief Scientist goes as far as to name hand controllers “sickness generators.” Addressing this drawback, MONKEYmedia’s patented, hands-free BodyNav know-how creates extra intuitive digital interactions by remapping management axes to perform each orientation and locomotion with pure physique motion. This gives the natural equilibrium wanted to bypass sensory imbalances.
