If you’re looking for Friday night lights at this year’s Grey Cup, they won’t be in the sky.

The Grey Cup Festival announced Friday afternoon that the NexGen Energy Drone Show won’t be going ahead Friday night due to wind and inclement weather. Two Saturday shows, scheduled for 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., will still be going ahead, weather permitting.

Any further updates about those shows will be communicated through the Grey Cup Festival app and at GreyCupFestival.ca.

The drone shows are part of the weekend-long NexGen Street Festival. For 10 minutes, 300 drones will fill the sky above Confederation Park to create a light show telling the story of this year’s Grey Cup.

The story will progress from Turtle Island, a creation story from Indigenous oral histories, all the way to the nine CFL teams and the 109th Grey Cup itself. It’s the largest drone show flown in Canada, and one that “will push the boundaries of what you thought was possible with drone technology,” a release from the organization reads.
