Drones for Good: Join the AMA Fly-A-Thon on Giving Tuesday, …

Here in the U.S.,  after “Black Friday,” the official start of the holiday shopping season, and the newer “Cyber Monday” comes “Giving Tuesday,” kicking off the charitable season.  This year, the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) Foundation is hosting a fly-a-thon, where participants can raise money for the educational and community-based programs that the foundation supports.

The Foundation is an officially recognized educational and scientific nonprofit organization.  “The AMA is devoted to inspiring the young and young-at-heart to pursue a hobby that will inspire creativity and advance learning through the use of hands-on applications,” says the organization.  ” The purposes of the Foundation will be to fundraise and make grants to AMA to support its charitable and educational programs and services.

“In 2016, our team “stood for you,” and last year we shared “our piece of the pie,” but this year we simply ask that you fly or support our team members as they fly throughout the day. It’s easy to participate. Either make a pledge to support one of our staff members on November 27, or use our online pledge form to collect pledges for your own efforts. The person who collects the most money in support of the AMA Foundation will be nationally recognized.

The foundation supports a variety of community and educational goals: including scholarship funds, disaster relief for clubs whose flying facilities have been damaged, community education programs, the National Model Aviation Museum, and the AMA Walk of Fame that commemorates community members.
