Toronto-based Drone Delivery Canada has picked up its second contract with DSV Air & Sea Inc. Canada, a subsidiary of Danish conglomerate DSV Panalpina A/S.

With the assistance of Air Canada, DDC will deploy its drone delivery platform to help DSV deliver healthcare-related cargo from its warehouse in Milton, Ont.

Last year, DDC announced the initial partnership with the European logistics/transport group to provide a drone delivery platform to the company’s new Canadian air and sea division.

Flying a route of just over two miles, a Sparrow drone will drop untethered cargo in a designated area shared by several DSV customers before returning to a home station.

DDC will remotely monitor the flights from its operations center in Vaughn, Ont. Flights are set to begin in the third quarter of this year and will be conducted in accordance with Canadian aviation regulations.

“We are currently flying hundreds of successful flights per month at DSV for their first route, and we are pleased to announce a second paid route with DSV.  DSV is a global leader in the logistics space and a perfect fit as a scalable customer for us,” DDC CEO Michael Zahra said,

“DSV will use our proven Sparrow drone with the new cargo drop functionality, patented FLYTE system, and commercial operations center.  It’s very fulfilling to DDC to provide DSV a solution to help deliver important healthcare related cargo given the current situation.”

“During this critical time, we have helped many of our clients find new ways of delivering cargo. In order to keep goods flowing through the supply chain, innovative solutions are key to embrace. Drone delivery provides an answer to many of the challenges we’ve seen during the current situation,” DSV Air & Sea Canada Managing Director Martin Roos said.

“Our partnership with DDC and Air Canada Cargo provides the opportunity to fulfill our clients’ needs, ensuring time sensitive, critical cargo can be delivered locally with accuracy, efficiency and minimal person-to-person contact.  We are excited to optimize our clients’ supply chains and are now exploring the true potential of drone innovation.”

Earlier this month, DDC collaborated with GlobalMedic and Air Canada to provide COVID-related drone delivery to Christian Island, a remote territory governed by the Beausoleil First Nation Community in Ontario.
