Management at Cork Airport will welcome any new technology aimed at eliminating the threat from illegal drones.

The Government is set to put in place a number of structures to facilitate the purchase and usage of anti-drone technology at the country’s airports.

Dublin Airport has been badly hit in recent months with the airfield being closed for several hours at a time and flights diverted or cancelled as a result.

Minister of State Jack Chambers says it’s an absolute priority to stop the issue from re-ocurring.

It’s illegal to fly a drone within 5 kilometres of any airport in Ireland.

It’s understood an existing agency will be tasked with selecting and deploying counterdrone technology to protect critical infrastructure at the country’s airports.

Communications Manager at Cork Airport , Barry Holland says new technology will be key.
