Japanese Cherry Blossom Trees (Drone Video)

By Hiroshige – CC

Cherry blossom viewing and appreciation is a Japanese tradition – and this drone video provides a new way of enjoying the stunning trees at the peak of their bloom.

Here in the U.S., we also have celebrated cherry trees found on the Mall in Washington, D.C.: a gift to the U.S. from Japan.  As described in a government website: “The plantings of cherry trees originated in 1912 as a gift of friendship to the People of the United States from the People of Japan. In Japan, the flowering cherry tree, or “Sakura,” is an exalted flowering plant. The beauty of the cherry blossom is a potent symbol equated with the evanescence of human life and epitomizes the transformation of Japanese culture throughout the ages.”

The average peak bloom is around April 4, in the US; in Japan they peak in late March or April.
